WELCOME TO THE WINCHESTER GALLERY

The Winchester Gallery is a research-led teaching space for collaboration across Winchester School of Art that presents a continuous programme of temporary exhibitions. We emphasise the continuity between research, education, and knowledge exchange, showcasing the work of staff, alumni, and our wider network around the world. We invite the public and the University community to interact with artists and the artistic process, creating opportunities for dialogue about issues and ideas that affect us all.

Bernat Klein: Influence and Inspiration

16 April to 23 May

Bernat Klein was an inspired colourist, textile designer and artist who won international acclaim for the dazzling textural designs he produced in the Scottish Borders from the 1950s to the 1990s. In partnership with the Bernat Klein Foundation and Creative Scotland, this exhibition takes a comprehensive look at his career and working methods.

A framed textile print in vivid pink and orange abstract patterns hangs beside a mannequin wearing a matching patterned garment. The display highlights the connection between the printed artwork and the finished clothing design.

Whispers

7 to 17 May

Whispers is a new public art trail that connects the existing campus of Winchester School of Art (WSA) and Winchester Gallery with Capital House, a former civic building currently being transformed into a Centre for Creative Technologies. Launching on Thursday 7 May 2026 with an opening event at Winchester Gallery (6–8pm), the project marks the first public works emerging from the Social Practice Lab, which is led by Professor Teresa Dillon, in collaboration with Fine Art lecturer Julia Vogl.

A poster titled “WHISPERS” advertises a public art trail between Winchester School of Art and Capital House, featuring a white line‑drawing graphic at the top. The text provides event details, dates, participating artists, and partner logos on a beige and white background.

Intrusive images

11 to 30 May

A festival of the moving image that takes up the theme of access, through creative practice, to technology and physical and institutional space.

All are invited to a screening event and reception on May 20, with films showing on screens across WSA from May 11 to 30.
